Well still in our first day and we felt adventurous so we decided to go for a walk to the centre.......bad idea! Its so so so hot not even the bahraini go out ! When I first put my sunglasses on, I couldn't see a thing. The heat steamed them up immediately. unbelievable.
Every taxi that went by as we were walking stopped to pick us up. They must have thought we were mad. Thank god for AC!
Everything is in English and everyone speaks English although the accent will take sometime to get use to. Manama Souq is full of tiny shops and as you walk by they call you in. Although being revamped, it looks quite nice, can't wait to see it finished.

Arrival
Hi,
We arrived in Bahrain late last night after a great flight with Etihad. Arrived at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain after a short trip in the taxi. It is amazing and because we're so nice, we'll let you share this adventure with us.
The main entrance
The BBQ areaThe main salon
And finally a few pictures of the pool
Our neighbour: The King !
edit (01/09/09): this turns out to be the Al Fateh Grand Mosque. and the palace that is beside it is the working palace so I wasn't lying when I said the Kind was my neibourg, at least for now.
Meeting today with Stephanie (our assigned buddy from the university) to show us around.
Hopefully there will be AC everywhere cos it is unbearably hot (over 45 degrees) and humid.
People seem very nice, just a few rules to follow because of Ramadan such as not eating or drinking in front of people during daylight or having shoulders covered. Inside the hotel is ok tho cos it's considered a private place.

Moving to Bahrain
Hi,
This blog is taken from an idea from Magali and Vincent (http://mag.vinc.bahrain.over-blog.com) in order to let our friends know what we're up to.
A few weeks ago, I accepted a lecturing job at the Polytechnic of Bahrain and we're moving in 3 days. This is going to be our adventure.
Finally all my stuff is packed and is being shipped tomorrow, all the paper work is done, I had my last meeting with my supervisors and last night we had a great leaving party (thank you all my friends), I'm now ready to go and I have finally time to be exited about this move.
I'm excited about going to a new country, I'm excited about my new job but most importantly I'm excited about moving in with Edwina. After 3 and a half years, it was about time I hear you say...
Hope we'll all see you over there for holidays and on this site regularly.
